Public Gives Suggestions For Next UI President

The search for the next University of Illinois president is still underway. The presidential search committee is currently gathering information from the community.

Qualities that the next U of I president should have were discussed at today’s town hall meeting in Urbana.

The open forum gave faculty, staff, students, and community members a chance to share their thoughts and suggestions.

Town hall meetings also took place this week on the UI Chicago and Springfield campuses.

U of I search committee leader and Trustee Pam Strobel said each campus had something different and beneficial to offer.

“It’s varied a little bit. There’s a lot of similarity and really very consistently across these 3 days on being on each campus; very constructive, helpful comments,” said Strobel.

Some students expressed the need for the next president to be relatable and several faculty members voiced concerns about the university budget.

The next public meeting will be July 11th in Urbana. Current president Robert Easter will be speaking.

The new U of I president will be announced later in the fall semester.
