Robbery, Beating Reported On U Of I Campus

University of Illinois Police are investigating two similar incidents Saturday night on campus involving suspects on bicycles.

Officers say a man was attacked and robbed by three men about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Parking Lot B-21, between the Engineering Science Building and Aero Dynamics Lab.

Reports show one subject struck the victim in the head with a black handgun, and held him at gunpoint while another subject searched his pockets.  After taking the man’s I-Card (U of I student ID), all three rode away on Goodwin Avenue.

Champaign Police reported another incident an hour later at the intersection of First and Healy Streets.  Officers say the victim was kicked and punched by three subjects riding bikes.

The first suspect is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall, 20-25 years old, wearing a white crew neck T-shirt and shorts.  The other two were not described, but all three were seen on bicycles.

U of I Police also reported an attempted robbery that occured about 2:45 Saturday morning on South Wright Street.

Officers say the victim was walking south near Talbot Lab when he was approached by four subjects walking north.

After they passed, the victim was struck from behind, knocked to the ground, then kicked and punched several times. When the victim resisted and began to shout for police, all four subjects ran north on Wright Street.

Suspect 1 is described as a black male, about 6'06" tall, 210 lbs, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.  Suspect 2 is described as a black male, with partial facial hair, about 5"08" tall, 200 lbs, wearing baggy, blue jean shorts and a dark t-shirt. Two other suspects were at the scene, but did not participate in the robbery.  A security camera video of the four can be found here.
