U of I Robbery, Attacks Reported

 

University of Illinois Police say a robbery that occured on campus early Saturday morning is similar to two other nearby incidents around the same time.

Officers say around 2:40 a.m. in the 200 block of East Peabody, near Hopkins and Forbes Halls, an individual was approached by a group of subjects who battered him, and the person's phone was taken.  The offenders were described as three black males and one white male.

Urbana Police also say shortly before 2:30, an individual walking in the 400 block of South Busey when he was approached by a group of subjects who beat him for no apparent reason.  The witness reported the subjects as four black males and one white male.

Just before 3 a.m., two individuals were in the 50 block of East Chalmers in Champaign when they were beaten by a group of subjects.  Champaign Police say the offenders in this case were described as two black males, one white male, and one Hispanic male, all 18 to 22 years old.  The offenders were said to be in a silver 4-door vehicle.

The victim in the East Peabody incident described the main offender as a black male wearing a white V-neck shirt with a long silver necklace or chain.  The victim believed the suspects entered a smaller colored 4-door vehicle, leaving north on First Street from the area of Stadium Drive.
