Volunteers To Plant 235 Trees In Gifford
The tornado-damaged central Illinois village of Gifford is getting more than 200 new trees.
The News-Gazette reports that about 150 volunteers are needed to help plant 235 trees on April 5. The project is called "Let's Get Growing Again.'' It's sponsored by the Champaign County Farm Bureau, Champaign Rotary Club and Ludwig Brothers Landscaping of Champaign.
Volunteers will plant more than $30,000 worth of trees, including red oaks, swamp white oaks, sugar maples and red maples. The trees will be planted in Gifford and in areas north and south of the village that were heavily damaged in the November tornado.
