Alma Mater Restoration

The Alma Mater, the iconic statue outside Altgeld Hall, and the backdrop for countless graduation day photos, will be returning to her pedestal Wednesday after a lengthy absence to be restored.

Illinois Public Media’s Jason Croft recently talked with Architect James Lev of Capital Programs, Facilities & Services at the University of Illinois.

He was part of the committee who oversaw the conservation of the Alma Mater. Lev was asked first what he thinks the reaction to the restored statue will be.

The restoration was done by Andrzej Dajnowski of the Conservation of Sculpture & Objects Studio in Forest Park, Illinois.
