Champaign Man Charged After Fatal Shooting

A Champaign man faces weapons charges after police say he fatally shot his girlfriend at a local motel early Friday morning.

Champaign Police say 20-year old Antonio Brown accidentally shot 20-year old Syndi Blackwell of Williamsport, Indiana at the Super 8 Motel on Marketview Drive about 3 a.m. Friday.

Officers say Brown mishandled the gun, causing it to discharge, and he took Blackwell to Carle Hospital, where she died just before 1 p.m.

Brown is in the county jail, charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.
