Republican Cindy Deadrick Wolfer of Macon says she is suspending her campaign for state representative in the 96th Illinois House District.

The announcement leaves incumbent State Representative Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) effectively unopposed in her bid for a third term.

In a news release cited by several media outlets, Deadrick Wolfer did not give a reason for her decision. She called it a “difficult decision”, and thanked her supporters. But she said their support was “just not enough in this politically challenging time”.

Deadrick Wolfer, a Decatur businesswoman and former Decatur Park Board commissioner, defeated Gary Pierce of Springfield to win the Republican primary in the 96th Illinois House District. The district covers parts of Springfield, Decatur and Christian County.
