The Illinois Secretary of State's office hopes to have a new Champaign driver services facility open later this summer. It was originally scheduled to open this month.

The old location on Bradley Avenue closed back in November due to concerns over air quality at the facility.

A temporary site will be available at the Champaign Public Library June 22nd through the 25th.

Secretary of State spokesperson Dave Druker says it will offer most driver services.

“People can do pretty much everything except the road test for the driver's exam," Druker said. "They can do written and vision tests, do work for titles, vehicle stickers, ID cards and that sort of thing."

Druker says this is the second, and final, temporary location before a new facility opens later this year.

He says they want to get the new site open as soon as possible.

“Part of the problem that existed was that, it’s not secretary of state people doing the work." Druker said. "Like anything you need permits to do construction work. So those have taken some time and that has slowed down some of the work.”

The new site will be at 2012 Round Barn Road in Champaign.
