UIC Makes Pitch To Host Obama Library

Another Chicago university wants a chance to become the home of President Barack Obama's presidential library after he leaves office.

The head of the University of Illinois at Chicago announced in a statement emailed Sunday that the school wants to officially be a candidate.

The university will have a team that'll advance the school's bid.   There's been no word on how the selection for the library will proceed.

Chicago State University, the University of Chicago and the University of Hawaii have expressed interest. Also, a group from Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood is promoting a lakefront site of a now-closed hospital.

UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares says the university makes an ideal location because it's a leading research institute, home to a major public medical center and has a diverse student body.
