Unit 4 School Board Names Superintendent Finalists

Three finalists for the job of Champaign Unit Four district superintendent will come to town next week.

The Champaign Unit Four School Board says the finalists announced at the board meeting Monday evening are Unit 4 assistant superintendent Susan Zola, Kansas City School Assistant Superintendent Paul Fregeau and Flossmoor interim Superintendent Michael Popp.  They were chosen from candidates interviewed by the school board during closed-door sessions at special meetings during the past weekend.

One of the finalists will succeed current superintendent Judy Wiegand, who is retiring.

All three will be visiting Unit Four schools in the coming week. A final interview on Wednesday, January 18th will include members of the Unit Four school board, teachers and staff and the community.

Also Monday night, the Unit Four School Board gave administrators the go-ahead to negotiate with three firms to help with the planning and execution of the six school facilities projects approved by voters last November --- including the renovation and expansion of Champaign Central High School.

Architectural team Perkins+Will and Champaign-Urbana-based IGW Architecture will consult on architectural design. O'Shea Builders will be the construction management firm. Coleman and Associates will help in meeting goals for Minority and Female Business Enterprise (MAFBE) and the development of design

Actual design and construction work on the projects is still to come.
