Photo courtesy of Illini Media Co. Dick Butkus is the only University of Illinois football player, other than Red Grange (#77), to have his jersey number (#50) retired. After starring at Illinois from 1962-1964, he was an All-Pro linebacker for the Chicago Bears from 1965-1973. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
