Preservation through Environmental Monitoring

The University of Illinois Preservation Working Group has been selected as a Research Partner in the Image Permanence Institute’s Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) funded Web-Based Environmental Risk Analysis (WebERA) project.

The project received eighty-one applications, and selected UIUC to receive twenty dataloggers,  which are portable environmental monitoring devices that record the temperature and humidity changes in the locations where they are placed. The dataloggers have been placed in different locations throughout UIUC’s libraries and museums, and are periodically checked to monitor these environments. The Image Permanence Institute (IPI) worked hard to select a group of institutions that represented a range of types, sizes, and geographical settings, and considered UIUC’s desire to be fully engaged in data collection, system review, and communication both within the campus and with the project team.
