The town of Quincy, Illinois is enjoying the spotlight after being featured in the popular Netflix makeover show Queer Eye. We talk to the band teacher who brought the Fab Five to Illinois. Also, it’s finally beach season. Even though we don’t live by the ocean, Lake Michigan is always a drive away. But it turns out the water is sometimes too dirty for swimmers. Plus, Chicago officials made it clear they won’t cooperate with the Trump administration’s current immigration deportation policy. That resistance harkens back to another era more than a century ago. And, we hear tips for making classic Chicago deep dish pizza at home.

Cows On Parade Art Back in Chicago; Illinois Gerrymandering; ICE Facial Recognition; Divorced Women Name-Change Law

Two decades ago, hundreds of life-sized cow sculptures in Chicago ignited a worldwide interest in public art. Now, more than a dozen are back in the city for the month of July. Plus, Illinois Democrats have drawn our state’s election maps for years, and they’ll probably get another chance after the 2020 census. And, federal immigration authorities tried to access Illinois driver’s license photos. We’ll hear from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office about why they said "no" to that request. Also, divorced women could more easily revert back to their maiden name with a new Illinois law.

Immigrant Detention Center In Dwight?; Walgreens; Harold Washington’s Legacy; Progressive Income Tax

On the 21st: For years, Dwight depended on a federal prison that is now closed. Now, community leaders believe they may have found a solution in the form of another kind of facility: an immigration detention center. Plus, the FDA says one in five Walgreens stores that were inspected illegally sold tobacco products to minors. Some lawmakers are also saying it’s time for the company to stop selling tobacco altogether. Also, it’s been more than 30 years since Harold Washington became Chicago’s first African-American mayor. We'll examine his legacy and how black politics has changed since. And, we'll unpack Gov. Pritzker's new tax rates that he's released that would be part of a new, statewide progressive income tax.
