Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing says she’s not concerned that the Trump Administration is again calling to strip federal funds from so-called “sanctuary cities.” 

The polls are open from 6 AM until 7 PM in Urbana Tuesday, as voters choose a Democratic nominee for mayor in a primary election.

Urbana voters are choosing from incumbent Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing, who seeking a fourth term, and two challengers: Alderwoman Diane Marlin and the Reverend Evelyn Burnett Underwood. The winner faces Republican Rex Bradfield in the April 4th election.

Democrat Laurel Prussing is seeking a fourth term as mayor of Urbana.  But before the municipal election in April, Prussing faces two challengers in the Democratic primary on February 28th, alderwoman Diane Marlin, and Evelyn Burnett Underwood.

There are now three candidates vying to win election as Mayor of Urbana next spring --- all Democrats, and all women.

The Reverend Evelyn Burnett Underwood is the latest to make her candidacy official, with an announcement on Wednesday.

Urbana Alderman Aaron Ammons says he has decided not to run for mayor next spring.

 While thanking those who had encouraged him to run for mayor, Ammons said in a statement that “I have decided right now my time and energy is best utilized by serving the people of my ward.”
