Five Democrats have already announced plans to run in the March primary for the 13th Congressional District. Incumbent Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, has held the seat since 2013, but he’s seen as potentially vulnerable in a sprawling district drawn specifically to give Democrats a shot.
Incumbent Republican Congressman Rodney Davis of Taylorville and Democratic challenger Mark Wicklund of Decatur shared similar concerns in areas like criminal justice reform and student loan interest rates, but they also found plenty to disgree on in their first debate of the season, including the future of the Affordable Care Act, and the approval ratings of Congress during the Obama administration.
Democrat Mark Wicklund is challenging incumbent Republican Rodney Davis for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District seat. Wicklund’s lone political experience is a three-year stint on the Macon County Board that ended in 2013. The Decatur resident currently serves as the president of the board of directors for the Decatur-Macon County Opportunities Corporation, a not-for-profit agency that provides services such as meals for seniors and energy assistance.
Illinois Public Media, NPR Illinois, and the League of Women Voters of Champaign County will host an Illinois 13th Congressional District Debate in the WILL-TV studio on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 7-8 pm.
The country's high court has denied David Gill a place on the November 8 ballot as an independent candidate in Illinois' 13th Congressional District. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan denied the physician's request Monday. Gill says he plans to appeal to a different justice.
