FACT SHEET FOR THE SONG AND THE SLOGAN

Program summary: WILL-TV’s The Song and the Slogan pays tribute to Carl Sandburg and celebrates his Midwestern roots. Incorporating a musical adaptation of Sandburg’s poem “Prairie,” written by composer Daniel Steven Crafts and sung by U of I School of Music alumnus Jerry Hadley, the performance documentary looks at Sandburg’s life and explores the prairie as a living entity, constantly changing yet unwilling to be tamed. WILL-TV producer Tim Hartin melds lush prairie visuals, Sandburg’s poetry and the music into a moving tribute.
