PBS Gives Critics the Goods at Press Tour
Alright, I'll admit it, I'll take any excuse to get a photo of Doctor Who's David Tennant on the WILL home page. Tennant, the new host for Masterpiece Contemporary when it returns this October, was one of many guests representing PBS at the Television Critics' Association Press Tour in Los Angeles. But the soon-to-be-former Doctor, who will also star in a TV adaptation of his acclaimed stage portrayal of Hamlet next year on Great Performances, wasn't the only news out of L.A.
PBS also announced three programs exploring matters of faith to air in 2010, including God in America, a six-hour documentary co-production of American Experience and Frontline, which will look at more than five centuries of American religious history from Christopher Columbus to the 2008 presidential election. Also forthcoming are The Buddha, a two-hour film relating the life of the Indian sage at the heart of the world's fourth largest religion; and The Calling, a four-hour documentary series following eight individuals as they choose to dedicate their lives to their respective faiths: Islam, Catholicism, Evangelical Christianity and Judaism.
Representatives from Sesame Street were on hand to talk up the series' 40th anniversary this November 10. Muppet character Abby Cadabby will feature in new computer-animated 'Flying Fairy School" segments, and First Lady Michelle Obama will join Jake Gyllenhaal, Meredith Vieira, Tiki Barber, Kobe Bryant, Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Fallon, Rick Gervais, Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler and Sarah Jessica Parker in celebrity guest segments.
