Last Friday afternoon brought news that long-running PBS how-to series The New Yankee Workshop has ceased production of new episodes. This announcement wasn't much of a surprise to me; I'd suspected as much ever since the previous season turned out to be all repeats. However, I expect it will be a blow to woodworking fans who've faithfully followed along with Norm Abram for 21 seasons.

Norm will continue to appear on new episodes of This Old House. The most recent season began airing on WILL-TV last Thursday at 8:00 pm.

"We've had a great run, built challenging projects, met wonderful woodworkers, and received loyal support from millions of viewers," stated Abram. Series creator and executive producer Russell Morash added, "Throughout the show's run, Norm has proven that he is one of the great craftsmen of our time."

The New Yankee Workshop's companion Web site, www.newyankee.com, will continue to provide viewers the opportunity to get into the shop with project plans, DVDs, a Q&A section, and more.
