The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on whether the Trump administration can add a citizenship question to the 2020 census. In Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker is moving ahead with plans to make sure everyone in the state is counted.
Illinois’ new state budget means more money for community colleges, including Parkland College in Champaign. The 5% increase in state funding for higher education translates into an estimated $200,000 for Parkland College, according to the college’s chief financial officer, Chris Randles.
Poet, musician and former University of Illinois faculty member Joy Harjo has been appointed to serve a one-year term as the next U.S. Poet Laureate. Harjo taught at the University of Illinois from 2013 to 2016, and was connected to the university's American Indian Studies Program.
