Beau Soleil with Michael Doucet; Pontiac Municipal Band

Garrison Keillor calls Beau Soleil with Michael Doucet the best Cajun band in the world, and he might be right. The Grammy Award-winning group will play at Sangamon Auditorium in Springfield Friday night, and Mr. Doucet will be my guest on the Friday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also hear about the Pontiac Municipal Band, playing Friday nights in June and July.

Candy Foster; Endless Pages

Candy Foster has been performing classic rhythm and blues for 40 years. He and his band Shades of Blue will play a fundraiser for the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen on Friday night at Alto Vineyards in Champaign, and Candy will join us on the Thursday edition of "Live and Local." We'll also hear a new two-girl band called Endless Pages, live in our studio.

Pianists Faye Ballard and Ian Hobson

On the Wednesday edition of "Live and Local," I'll talk with two very different pianists. Faye Ballard is a regular top-five finalist at Peoria's Old Time Piano Playing Contest. Ian Hobson is a world-renowned classical pianist teaching at the University of Illinois. Both will play at the Krannert Center in Urbana on Thursday.

McLean County Mandolin Society; Pianist Rochelle Sennet

In 2003, several friends in the Bloomington area formed a mandolin orchestra modeled on traditional groups of the early 20th century. On the Tuesday edition of "Live and Local," we'll hear members of the McLean County Mandolin Society play for us live in our studio. And I'll talk with pianist Rochelle Sennet of the University of Illinois faculty, in advance of her recital Wednesday night.

Fifth Annual Kathy Murphy Student Production; Harpsichordist William Heiles

Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company's Fifth Annual Kathy Murphy Student Production will be Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka, opening June 17. On the Monday edition of "Live and Local," we'll welcome Willy Wonka himself and other cast members for some songs from the show. I'll also talk with harpsichordist William Heiles of the University of Illinois faculty, who performs in Urbana in the evening.

Composer Kyle de Tarnowsky and the Urbana Pops Orchestra

The Urbana Pops Orchestra gives its first concert Saturday at noon at Lincoln Square Village. Along with music from famous films, the program includes a work written for the orchestra by Kyle de Tarnowsky, currently pursuing a film career in Los Angeles. Kyle will be my guest on today's edition, with Urbana Pops conductors Daniel Southerland and Stephen Larson.
