So You Think You Know The Magna Carta…?

This year, the Magna Carta will turn 800 years old. The document, literally “Great Charter” when translated from Latin, is revered as the founding document of western democracy. Its language is found in many later key political documents including the US constitution and the Bill of Rights. But when Dan Jones dug into its history he found a very different story than we assume. Illinois Public Media's Amanda Honigfort talked with Jones about what he found.

A Bombshell Dropped (In Bement) 60 Years Ago

As if Abraham Lincoln wasn’t enough, a small central Illinois town can lay claim to a visit from Marilyn Monroe. The actress visited the community of Bement in Piatt County 60 years ago this week.  It's known for being the site where Lincoln and Stephen Douglas met to plan their famous debates.  But on a day in the summer of 1955, it was Marilyn’s town.

The star of films like "Mary Poppins" and TV's "The Dick Van Dyke Show" took to Twitter last week, calling attention to the Danville home he and his brother lived in during high school.
