Project 1000; New Central Illinois Health Clinic; In Studio: Jupiter String Quartet

On the 21st: We spoke with two students from Black United Front UIUC, a group that is urging the University of Illinois to recruit more black students and provide better resources. Plus, we learned about a new health clinic that aims to increase access to affordable medical and dental care in central Illinois, and we were joined in studio by the Jupiter String Quartet for a preview of their upcoming performance in Urbana.

U Of I Trustees Hear Call For Higher Black Enrollment

An African-American student group is launching a campaign to pressure administrators to take steps to increase black enrollment at the University of Illinois. That included a demonstration in the middle of a U of I Board of Trustees meeting on the Urbana campus Wednesday.

Hundreds Attend Rally For Immigrants At U Of I’s Willard Airport

An estimated 600 people attended Sunday’s rally against President Donald Trump’s executive order to ban travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries. The event came together after organizers like Ann Abbott reached out on Facebook the night before. She says the Trump administration is trying to use fear to pit U.S. citizens against one another. “This is not 2001, this is 2017, and we are smart, not scared,” she told the crowd.
