After Withdrawal Of IBHE Nomination, Rauner Names Bambenek to Comm College Board

Two days after withdrawing his nomination to the state Board of Higher Education, Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed John Bambenek to a similar panel. The governor on Friday named the University of Illinois cybersecurity lecturer to the Illinois Community College Board. Bambanek wouldn’t comment on Rauner’s earlier decision, but says he’s grateful for the chance to serve.

Parkland Professor Is Now Also Parkland Trustee

Rochelle Harden was sworn in Wednesday night as the first-ever African-American trustee at Parkland College in Champaign. But that milestone has been overshadowed by the fact that the new trustee is also a member of the community college’s faculty.

Actor, U Of I Alumnus Offerman To Give Commencement Speech

Actor and alumnus Nick Offerman will be the commencement speaker for the University of Illinois' Urbana campus on May 13. The selection was confirmed late Tuesday afternoon with a short video of Offerman posted to the U of I's Facebook page. In the video, Offerman took on the mannerisms of Ron Swanson, the character he played on the TV show "Parks and Recreation."

Moody’s Lowers Rating For One State School, Threatens To Do Same For Six Others

Moody's Investors Service has downgraded the credit rating of one state university in Illinois — Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.  The lower rating takes Northeastern well become so-called junk status. And the bond credit rating company says the rating could be lowered even further.
