Tuesday was a busy day for the insurance companies who applied to be a part of the Illinois insurance exchange. One of those companies is Health Alliance, which is based in Urbana. Jana Perry is the Vice President of Medicare and Individual Services with Health Alliance in Urbana. She spoke with Illinois Public Media’s Sean Powers about the new opportunities for people created by the Affordable Care Act, and how Health Alliance intends to stay competitive in the exchange.
House Republicans and Senate Democrats could not reach agreement by the midnight deadline on a spending bill to keep the government operating, triggering an immediate shutdown of nonessential services and the furlough of nonessential personnel potentially affecting hundreds of thousands of federal workers.
Moving quickly, on Monday, the Senate voted 54-46 to reject a House continuing resolution that would avert a government shutdown but would delay the implementation of President Obama's signature law, the Affordable Care Act.
