Illinois Republican Governor Bruce Rauner is scheduled to present his budget for the financially struggling state this week. Many Democrats are concerned he will propose big cuts to social service agencies. Chicago Democrat Greg Harris says he doesn’t think Rauner’s plan to cut taxes is sustainable - if he wants to fund mental health services and child welfare programs.
Gov. Bruce Rauner stepped up his campaign against government employee unions by eliminating so-called "fair share'' dues paid by workers who don't join a union. The Republican said Monday he has signed an executive order erasing what he says is a "critical cog in the corrupt bargain crushing taxpayers.''
Illinois has more than 850 school districts and over 13,000 school administrators in its K-12 system. Gov. Bruce Rauner says those numbers are bloat to the system and is calling for a paring down of what he calls "education bureaucracy."
Gov. Bruce Rauner lit a fire under labor unions in Illinois earlier this week when he suggested local governments — like counties or cities — should be able to implement their own right-to-work laws. On Thursday Rauner went one step further, saying government unions should be banned from contributing to political campaigns.
