BLM Activists In Central Illinois Organize In Response To Recent Shootings

Kadeem Fuller organizes community engagement for the Black Lives Matter chapter located in Champaign-Urbana. He says the time for educating white people on the cause has passed - now is time for action. Numerous events were held in Central Illinois throughout the weekend after the shootings of African-Americans in Minnesota and Louisiana, and the sniper shootings of officers in Dallas.

Sen. Kirk, Gov’s Rauner and Pence React To Trump Comments

Republican U.S. Senator Mark Kirk, one of the party's most endangered incumbents, said Tuesday he won't support the presumptive GOP presidential nominee after Trump's controversial comments about a federal judge of Mexican heritage. Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner said he was 'disgusted' by Trump's words, and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence called them 'inappropriate.'

Documentary Profiles Latinos’ Role In Shaping Baseball History

U of I history professor Adrian Burgos learned through his family, and his love for baseball, that Latin players played a large role in the game since its early days. Burgos' research is the focus of "Playing America's Game", which includes interviews with Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, and current Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu. The program premieres Saturday at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

UI ‘Strategic Framework’ Amended To Include Language On Race

University of Illinois officials are being encouraged to think about race in a new way. That’s thanks to a change in the university’s strategic plan proposed by a student member of the U of I Board of Trustees.  On Thursday, Chicago campus Trustee Jauwan Hall suggested they replace the concept of encouraging “diversity” with encouraging "normalization."
