One Student Injured, Another In Custody, Following Shooting At Mattoon High School

Police have a person in custody, following a shooting Wednesday morning at Mattoon High School, in which one person was injured. A statement posted Wednesday afternoon to the Mattoon school district website said high school officials learned of a shooter at the high school around 11:30 a.m Wednesday morning.

Hurricane Maria Makes Landfall In Puerto Rico

After devastating parts of the Caribbean, Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Powerful Quake Devastates Central Mexico, Leaving More Than 200 Dead

The head of Mexico's civil defense agency has lowered the number of people confirmed dead in Tuesday's earthquake. Luis Felipe Puente now says 217 people were killed. Earlier he said the death toll was 248. He gave no explanation for the revised number.

Auto Parts Maker Funds New U Of I Study Program In China

Last week on his trip to Asia, Governor Bruce Rauner visited the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou and toured the facilities of Wanxiang Group Corporation, China’s largest auto parts maker. It’s an experience that some University of Illinois students could have next summer, under a new study-abroad program.
