Shooting At Fort Hood Leaves At 4 Dead, 16 Injured

A gunman opened fire on the military post of Fort Hood, Texas, on Wednesday, killing three and injuring 16, before putting the gun to his head and killing himself, Lieutenant General Mark A. Milley said in a televised press conference.

Illinois House Approves Smoke-Free Campus Measure

Smoking would be banned on public college campuses under legislation approved Wednesday by the Illinois House.  The ban would apply almost everywhere on campus -- including outdoors.

Senate Democrats Say Caterpillar Avoided $2.4 Billion In Taxes

At a Senate committee hearing on Tuesday, senior officials of Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar Inc. defended the company against accusations that it had used an affiliate in Switzerland to avoided paying some $2.4 billion in taxes over a 12-year period.

Ill. State Police Disqualify Firearms Instructor

Illinois State Police officials have disqualified a Bolingbrook firearms instructor, and informed at least 327 applicants they will not receive a license to carry concealed weapons because of improper training.
