Live Asian Carp Discovered Near Lake Michigan

Fears that the invasive Asian carp could show up in the Great Lakes were renewed, when one of the fish was caught on June 22 near the T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam in the Little Calumet River, just nine miles from Lake Michigan.

Foreign Investment In U.S. Farmland On The Rise

In 2013, the Chinese firm Shuanghui acquired more than 146,000 acres of farmland across the United States, worth more than $500 million, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data. The deal made Shuanghui, now the WH Group Limited, into one of the biggest foreign owners of U.S. agricultural land, according to an analysis of that same data.

U of I Studying Feasibility Of Adding Ice Hockey, NHL Picking Up The Tab

The National Hockey League and NHL Players Association said Friday that they are financing a study on the feasibility of adding men’s and women’s ice hockey teams at the University of Illinois. The school's athletic director likes the idea, but says financial questions must be answered.
