U of I Chess Team Finishes Fourth In Tourney

The University of Connecticut may be celebrating a basketball championship, but Webster University in suburban St. Louis is celebrating back-to-back titles - in chess.  The University of Illinois finished fourth.

Mickey Rooney, the pint-size, precocious actor and all-around talent whose more than 90-year career spanned silent comedies, Shakespeare, Judy Garland musicals, Andy Hardy stardom, television and the Broadway theater, died Sunday at age 93.

Northwestern Coach Urges ‘No’ Vote On Union

Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald is encouraging his team to vote no on forming a union less than two weeks after the National Labor Relations Board said the players could bargain collectively and called for an election.

New Trees in Gifford Help Rebuild Community

If you travel to the Champaign County town of Gifford, you will still find destroyed homes and trees snapped like twigs by a tornado last November. After a long, bitter winter, people are working to put the community back together.
