SIU Looking At $30 Million In Budget Cuts

Illinois' budget impasse has prompted another "doomsday scenario" at Southern Illinois University – which could be voted on as early as next week. In a letter to the SIU system, President Randy Dunn outlined what he'll be asking from the Board of Trustees when they meet in Carbondale. The request includes declaration of a financial emergency.

Did Rauner 'Pull Votes' Off The Grand Bargain?

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner continues to insist he is not responsible for derailing the state Senate's so-called grand bargain. But Democrats say he pulled Republican votes off the bipartisan deal ... which was trying to end Illinois' budget stalemate. Both assertions cannot be true — so we asked Statehouse reporter Brian Mackey to investigate.

With 'Grand Bargain' In Doubt, State Senators Go Home Until Tuesday

Illinois Senators left Springfield Thursday without voting on the so-called "grand bargain.” Senate President John Cullerton says Democrats were left out to dry by Governor Bruce Rauner. He says Rauner instructed Republicans to withhold their support. But GOP Senator Chapin Rose, of Mahomet, says his side can wait a couple more weeks for a better deal.
