Unit 4 Teachers Negotiate With District For The First Time Since Strike Vote

About 150 members of the Champaign Federation of Teachers marched and carried signs as they prepared for their ninth negotiating session since the prior contract with Unit 4 Schools expired on June 30, and second with a federal mediator. CFT President Jennifer White said there was a lot riding on Tuesday's talks, with plans to set another session if progress was made.

Elections Officials Remove Independent Gill From Ballot

The Illinois State Board of Elections has formally removed David Gill from the ballot. The Bloomington physician was running as an independent for Congress in the 13th District, which includes Springfield, Decatur and Champaign. Gill's attorney, Sam Cahnman, says he'll continue to pursue an appeal.

Police Arrest Suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami Over Bombs In New York Area

A law enforcement official says the Afghan immigrant wanted in connection with explosions in New York City and New Jersey has been taken into custody following a shootout with police officers. Ahman Khan Rahami, 28, was captured Monday morning.
