Durbin Goes After Trump Budget in Springfield

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) made a stop at the Springfield Boys & Girls Club, saying it’s funding is under threat by President Trump’s budget proposal.

A leading Democrat in Congress, Durbin also took the opportunity to attack the Republican healthcare plan. He says given the opposition from medical providers, he doesn’t understand how a Congressman from Illinois could support it.

IL Attorney General Asks Court To Stop State Worker Pay

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is seeking to stop state worker pay until legislators and Gov. Bruce Rauner approve a spending plan.

A motion by Madigan filed Thursday in St. Clair County Circuit Court seeks to dissolve a preliminary injunction which allowed state workers to be paid during the budget impasse.

Rauner 'Excited' Over Budget Possibilities, Glad Election Is Over

Gov. Bruce Rauner says he hopes lawmakers get to work on trying to end an epic budget impasse when they return to Springfield for a brief session next week.

Rauner said he wants to meet with legislative leaders Monday to discuss how to proceed, but Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan hasn't responded.

Many Illinois Universities Take Credit Hit After Stop-Gap Budget

Higher education was a major victim of Illinois’ year-long budget impasse. That makes it one of the winners in the stopgap spending plan passed this week.  But universities aren’t breathing too easily. University of Illinois President Timothy Killeen expressed gratitude for the compromise, but said more must be done. In an email to students and employees yesterday, he said the U of I will receive roughly 55-percent of what it saw in 2015 – the last year higher education was fully funded.
