Demolition Of Champaign Burnham Mansion Completed

A demolition crew tore down the 134-year-old Burnham Mansion in Champaign on Tuesday, reducing it to a pile of rubble by evening. The home on Church Street that later become an apartment building is coming down to make room for the expansion of Champaign Central High School.

Area Tax Questions Get Mixed Results

Proposals to raise local taxes were a mixed bag with voters in east-central Illinois. Voters approved school bond referendum in the Champaign and Paxton Buckley-Loda school districts, and said yes to sales tax hikes in Coles and Iroquois Counties. But a sales tax hike for Macon County and a property tax increase for the Maroa-Forsyth school district went down to defeat.
