How Prisons Are Handling The Spread Of COVID-19

The Illinois National Guard is now moving into Stateville Correctional Center, near Joliet, where an inmate died and dozens more inmates and state employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Some incarcerated people at Stateville shared that their temperatures had only been taken once by prison staff. Up until recently, the prison was also still running recreation and chow lines, places where inmates could gather, according to Illinois Newsroom reporter Lee Gaines, who has previously reported on the topic

Amy, a parent of an incarcerated person at Shawnee Correctional Unit in Vienna, is particularly worried about her son who has asthma.
