Since the time of Mozart, pianists and others have delighted in working popular operatic arias into their repertories. Sometimes this results in sets of variations, some times we have what Liszt called "concert paraphrases." Whatever called, the result is usually a delightful combination of pop opera hits and dazzling displays of piano virtuosity. We will sample this array of musical desserts.
