Fast Minds: How to Thrive if You Have ADHD

Dr. Craig Surman, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical school and the coordinator of the Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, joins host Jim Meadows this hour to talk about the ever increasing number of people being diagnosed with ADHD. We’ll ask him about when it’s right to medicate and when it’s not and will talk about alternative therapies that don’t involve a prescription.
His new book, “Fast Minds: How to Thrive if you have ADHD” is both a workbook and guide for those who have been diagnosed with ADHD.
Do you have ADHD? Know someone who does? We welcome your questions this hour on Focus. Post in the comments section below or find us on Facebook and Twitter @Focus580.

I guess I have 3 sets of questions.. If you wish, please ignore some and answer some as you please.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Long term use of ritalin/concerta: are there any studies and data?
Are there significant side effects on health and longevity? is there a need to increase dosage over the years?
Are medication appropriate for someone in their fifties?
INCREASED HEARTBEAT
One side effect I noticed when I tried it for a short time was a faster heartbeat, and maybe higher blood pressure.
Is that a common side effect? Is that just like coffee quickening one’s pulse (and therefore benign?)
MEDITATION
Does mediation help with ADHD? its of course hard to do, for someone with ADHD, but may be its more beneficial than it is for “regular” folk.
