Digital Platform Specialist

 

Illinois Public Media seeks a Digital Platform Specialist to assist in IPM's digital operation, supporting goals and objectives based on audience growth and strategic plan.

The Digital Platform Specialist is part of the team that collaborates to design, update, analyze, test, troubleshoot, and enhance Illinois Public Media's content platforms, services, and applications. This person collaborates with multiple stakeholders at Illinois Public Media (including News, Content Production, Programming, Fundraising, Operations, and Marketing) to implement best practices in digital content distribution to grow the audience and improve the user experience, while balancing responsibility across digital platform strategy and operations.

Illinois Public Media is a not-for-profit public media service of the College of Media at the University of Illinois, educating, entertaining, inspiring, and empowering by airing the best of NPR, PBS, BBC, PRX and producing award winning documentaries, art and lifestyle programs, and news and public affairs programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Digital Content Distribution & Maintenance

  • Assists in planning and integrating content across multiple platforms including the WILL app, smart speakers, web, and on-demand streaming.
  • Works collaboratively to develop strategies for a consistent brand experience across digital platforms.
  • Maintains strong awareness of the emerging digital landscape and user experience design trends and evaluates their applicability.
  • Assists in the curation of Illinois Public Media's online media throughout the content lifecycle.
  • Pitches creative projects to support IPM departments in their goals. Analytics & Support
  • Monitors data and analytics from all IPM digital platforms.
  • Assists in analyzing effectiveness of existing content platforms and helps develop models to create new digital capabilities.
  • Works collaboratively with content producers to optimize content for different platforms.
  • Works with Digital Operations team to support existing web applications, improve functionality, and better reach target audiences.
  • Advises on digital best practices regarding news and media consumption, user experience, SEO, industry research, and analytics.
  • Stays up to date on industry best practices and supports staff training efforts on digital content tools.
  • Creates necessary process documentation and guidance on station's digital assets.

Administrative

  • Participates in on-air fundraising, community outreach projects, and marketing activities on behalf of Illinois Public Media.
  • Fosters and maintains relations with staff, College of Media leaders, clients, and audience.
  • Manage student employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Required

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in information science, communications, or related field.

Experience

Required

  • 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year,
  • 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years.
  • Experience using graphic editing tools to prepare images for the web.
  • Experience with digital content, products, and services.
  • Experience launching and / or managing digital content products.

Preferred

  • Ability to build clear narratives through data analytics and campaign reporting (e.g., Google Analytics, Google Data Studio, other digital marketing tools).
  • Familiarity with industry metadata standards and schemas.
  • Experience with digital asset management tools.
  • Familiarity with at least one markup language (e.g., HTML, Markdown, etc.)
  • Ability to write copy to support digital content.
