Chicago Little League Team Wins U-S Title

 

The Jackie Robinson West All-Stars beat the Mountain Ridge team from Las Vegas 7 to 5 Saturday to win the U-S title in the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

Joshua Houston survived a rocky start to pitch five innings for the team from Chicago's South Side, and also brought in the tying run with a line single in the fifth inning.

Sunday's final of the Little League World Series will feature Jackie Robinson West against the Seoul Little League team from South Korea.

Large crowds turned out for watch parties in Chicago as the 11- and 12-year-olds from the Jackie Robinson West took on the Las Vegas team in Saturday's U.S. final,

At one of the watch parties, at a Far South Side community center, retired city worker Mario Stinson said the team was a unifying force, noting that players represent multiple neighborhoods divided by gang violence.

Sabrina Johnson was with her 8-year-old grandson. She says the team was giving kids hope in the face of "all this violence."
