Urbana Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault

Urbana Police have arrested a District 116 high school teacher for alleged sexual contact involving a 16-year old male student off of school grounds.

In a press release, the department says a warrant was issued for 45-year old Tammy Bond, who was suspended Tuesday by school district officials.  She was arrested Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. at her home in Champaign.

Bond will be sent to the Champaign County Jail, with bond set at $50,000.

Urbana Police say that over the course of a few months, the mother of the student noticed her son was receiving gifts and privileges from the teacher, in addition to spending time with the teacher outside of school.

On Tuesday, police obtained statements and collected evidence, including cell phones.

Bond is charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault.

District 116 issued a statement, saying Bond is currently on leave, and won’t have further contact with students, pending her termination.

"We strive to provide supportive schools with environments conductive to learning.  We will not tolerate unprofessional or inappropriate misconduct by any staff member," the statement read.

Anyone with further information regarding the incident is urged to call Urbana Police or Crimestoppers.
