Warrant Issued for Suspect in Champaign Mall Abduction

Authorities are seeking a suspect in connection with a Wednesday afternoon abduction outside Champaign’s Market Place Mall.

Champaign Police have issued an arrest warrant for 25 year old Eduardo Guerro Cortez --- formerly of Rantoul and Houston ---- on aggravated battery charges. He’s wanted in the abduction of 19 year old Monica Ramirez of Champaign.

Police say Ramirez was with a male friend outside the mall, when they were approached by three men, one of whom forced Ramirez into a red pickup truck, while another threatened her friend with a knife.  The suspects drove away in the pickup with Ramirez inside.

Police describe Guerro as a 25 year-old Hispanic male, 5'5" tall, and weighing about 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red hat, a t-shirt with red, white, and brown horizontal stripes, and long blue shorts. He has the name "Monica" tattoed on the left side of his neck, and "Jaylen" tattoed on the outer side of his left forearm. Police say Guerro is also missing three middle fingers on his right hand.

Champaign Police are investigating the abduction with help from the FBI.  They ask that anyone who sees the suspects or Ramirez to call 9-1-1 immediately.
