High school basketball games between Danville and schools in Champaign-Urbana have been cancelled this week, in the wake of a shooting last Friday that injured three people.

A news release from the Danville school district announced the cancellation of Tuesday night’s girls’ game at Champaign Central High School. Friday’s boys’ game and Saturday’s girls’ game at Danville High School this weekend against visiting Urbana have also been called off.

The release says Danville District 118 made the decision jointly with the Champaign and Urbana school districts, quote “out of an abundance of caution,” and that “the safety of our students, staff and fans is our top priority.”

Champaign Police are still searching for the person who shot and injured three people Friday night, following a basketball game against Danville at Champaign Central High School. One of the injured victims is from Danville.
