Champaign Unit 4 school officials plan to distribute Chromebooks to students whose families do not have a device at home.

In a message sent to families last week, Unit 4 Superintendent Susan Zola says the initial distribution of Chromebooks will be to families who do not have any additional devices in their home. She says distribution to middle school families will begin Tuesday, March 31. Zola says a date for distribution to elementary school families will be announced soon.

Zola says students who will receive a Chromebook during the first phase of distribution will be contacted by their staff at their school building.

She says the district will address additional needs once Chromebooks have been given out.

The Illinois State Board of Education ordered districts on Friday to implement e-learning or remote learning plans this week. State officials encourage districts to adopt grading policies that don’t negatively affect students. Instead, they say districts should allow students the opportunity to re-do or make-up assignments.

Unit 4 has also made minor changes to its meal distribution plan. You can find more information at the district’s website.
