UPDATE: Bradley Ave in Champaign Reopened to Traffic

UPDATE: Bradley Avenue between Market and 4th Streets in Champaign was reopened to traffic Tuesday afternoon, after an Ameren crew brought a gas leak under control.

The closure, which began Tuesday morning, also affected Oak Street, North Chestnut Street and North Clock Streets at their intersections with Bradley.

Champaign Fire Marshall John Koller said in a news release that the Oak Trace apartment complex on Bradley was evacuated because of the leak  … but that gas readings in the area have NOT found any elevated readings.

In a later news released issued at 2:45 PM, Killer said that Ameren had been able to control the release of gas in the area, alllowing Bradley Avenue to be reopened to traffic. But repair work would continue at the site.
