Heavy Rains Cause Postponements, Cancellations

This weekend’s rainy weather is causing organizers of outdoor events in east-central Illinois to revise their plans.

The University of Illinois’ Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is going ahead with its Friday night 50th Anniversary Opening Night Party. But all the outdoor components have been moved indoors.

That includes food and beverage vendors, which will now be in the Krannert lobby, and a vintage car display, which will be on the Orange underground parking deck. In addition, a performance by the New Orleans Jazz Machine has been moved from outdoors to indoors, in the Krannaert Cenetrs. to the Studio Theatre.

Also due to the rain … the Urbana Park District has postponed its Friday night Jazz Walk at Meadowbrook Park. It will now be held on Friday, Sept. 14.

C-U Indivisible says the rally and march it was going to hold at Congressman Rodney Davis’ Champaign office on Saturday the 8th has now been put off until the following Saturday, the 14th

And the “Blues And Barbecue” fundraiser planned for Saturday to support public parks in Oakwood has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

The National Weather Service has forecast showers and possibly thunderstorms in east-central Illinois, from Friday afternoon through Saturday night (and into midday Sunday in Champaign and Vermilion Counties), with heavy rain possible during the thunderstorms.  Flash Flood Warnings have been posted for Champaign, Vermilion and Piatt Counties until 8 PM Friday evening and in Macon County until 9:15 PM.

CORRECTION: The Friday night Jazz Walk at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana will be held on Friday, Sept. 14. Previously, this article erroniously stated it would not be held on that date. - JM 9/9/18
