New High Rise Planned For Campustown

A new seventeen-story building is being planned for Champaign’s Campustown, according to documents for Tuesday evening's Champaign City Council meeting.
The three hundred thousand gross square foot building would be constructed on the eastern side of Sixth Street, south of Green Street, where the Clybourne Bar is located.
CORE Director of Acquisitions Tom Harrington Jr. is representing the campus building developer in the high rise's construction.
Businesses would occupy the ground floor, residents would live up above, and a parking lot would reside underground.
Senior Planner for Economic Development T.J. Blakeman penned details of the high rise in a memo discussing COUNCIL BILL NO. 2018-053 and COUNCIL BILL NO. 2018-054. The two resolutions address an alley located where the proposed building would be constructed. Champaign City Council members approved the measures without discussion of the high rise project Tuesday night. However, it was noted that project developers were present.
Both Harrington Jr. and Blakeman declined to comment when reach before the city council meeting on Tuesday.
