Pontiac police say an on-duty officer and his police dog have been killed in a vehicle crash.
Pontiac police say 29-year-old officer Casey J. Kohlmeier was killed late Wednesday. Officials say another vehicle struck Kohlmeier's marked K-9 vehicle on Interstate 55.
The officer was on duty and in the median turn around just north of Route 23. Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
Kohlmeier's police dog, Draco, also was in the vehicle and was killed.
