Unit 4 School Board To Vote Wednesday On Resolution To Deny Charter School

The Champaign Unit Four School Board will vote on a resolution to deny an application for a proposed charter school, at a special meeting Wednesday night.

Local organizers of the North Champaign Academy want to reduce the racial achievement gap in Unit Four with an elementary school for low-income and low-achieving students.

But a news release from the school district says the proposal “does not meet the statutory requirements for a charter school.”

And Unit Four administrators raised questions about everything from the North Champaign Academy’s education plan and finances to the suitability of the site for the school building.

The Unit Four school board has scheduled its special meeting for Wednesday at 5:30 PM at the Mellon Administrative Center on South New Street in Champaign.
