A major energy package, automatic voter registration ---- and the state budget --- are all on the line … as state lawmakers return to the capitol this week. It’s the second half of the annual veto session.

Despite recent hype over the possibility of legislators putting questions on the November ballot to change the constitution, the Illinois House adjourned Wednesday without even voting on proposed amendments. Their lack of action means voters won't be asked whether they want to change how they're taxed.

A stalemate persists, as Illinois begins a tenth month without a budget. Legislators are back in Springfield after a spring break. They now have a few months to also find an agreement on a new budget, to cover next year.

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says he's "very upset'' that Chicago State University may have to close due to financial problems.  Students and employees at the school are being asked to turn in their keys.  Rauner said Wednesday at an unrelated event in Springfield that it's "an outrage."

A new effort from Democrats to fund Illinois' financially strapped state universities and community colleges is getting a cold reception from Gov. Bruce Rauner.
