Jon Gunderson on Tim Nugent’s Fight to Increase the Independence of People with Disabilities

Jon Gunderson speaking:
That was a huge thing when Tim Nugent started the Rehab Center. He had to fight the medical model of disability. When he started the program after World War II, wheelchairs were designed for somebody to push you around, not for you to push yourself around. People take care of you. If you have a disability you go to an institution.
